Have you heard of the saying, “they died of fear”? It’s not a mere figure of speech in Gaza.

You realize this when the husband of the martyr, Mariam Nassar narrates her martyrdom, and her story of the terror that resided in her heart on the first day of the Al-Aqsa Flood War.

On October 17, ten days after the start of the war, the Zionist occupation committed a heinous, indescribable crime.

The Baptist Hospital, which housed thousands of displaced people in its courtyards, was bombed and turned it into a pool of blood, as the displaced people described it.

At that time, Mariam felt that anguish was squeezing her heart. That day, she thought that the whole world would rise up…only for them to wake up to a normal morning. The sadness and anguish in her heart increased.

In the hours of noon, the fire belt surrounded her residential area. She feared for her children and hugged them tightly. When the bombing became very intense, she went to close the window of the room. She saw a winged missile falling from a nearby plane.

Mariam thought that the missile was heading for their house. Fear killed her. Her heart stopped and she departed from this world, losing all her rights, even the simplest one-- safety!
