GWCQP Holds Conference for Tunisian Branch Founding
On Saturday, April 27, 2019, the Global Women's Coalition for Quds and Palestine held a conference for the founding of its' Tunisian branch, the Tunisian Women's Coalition, a decision made by the General-Secretariat. It was held in Hamamat, Tunisia, and was attended by representatives of partner organizations and associations to the Tunisian Women's Coalition as well as prominent figures who work to serve the Palestinian Cause.
The meeting began with an opening speech by Ms. Salwa Bijawi, the representative of Tunisia and member of the General-Secretariat of the GWCQP, during which she spoke about the goals of establishing the Tunisian Women's Coalition. It aims to:
- Support the Palestinian and Maqdisi women and introduce their struggles and the violations they are exposed to at all levels.
- Unite Tunisian women to work on the Palestinian cause and involving the most important actors in working for it, so that Tunisian women are partners in working for Palestine.
- Network relations with the Global Women’s Coalition, match activities and programs that serve Palestinian women, and be open to the Ummah’s women and their experiences to raise the level of mechanisms and methods for supporting the Ummah’s cause in all its dimensions.
The Tunisian Women's Coalition was formed from 12 institutions and 14 active figures in the service of women, youth and culture.
Mr. Ziad Bou Makhala gave a speech on behalf of Dr. Muhammad Akram Al-Adlouni, Secretary-General of the Global Coalition for Quds and Palestine. In it, he spoke about introducing the Global Coalition, its various components, and most important goals, before thanking Tunisia for this important achievement that benefits Palestinian women.
Dr. Abu Ahmed Saeed and Mr. Ahmed Al-Atawneh, President of the Sports Coalition for Quds and Palestine, also participated. They thanked what Tunisia is offering and recommended more work and support, highlighting the important role of women in achieving successes for the Palestinian cause.
Khadija Khwais, a Maqdisi Murabita, also attended. In her speech, she introduced Al-Aqsa, its religious status, and spoke about what we as Muslims must offer to Al-Aqsa. She also praised this step of uniting the people working for the cause under one umbrella.
The partnership document was signed by the partner institutions of the emerging coalition. Khadija Khwais presented membership certificates to the heads of the institutions, their representatives, and some Tunisian women figures.
The conference concluded with some recommendations being agreed upon, namely expanding the coalition and opening it up to the largest number of institutions as well as developing a central action plan led by the Tunisian Women’s Coalition. It also hopes for the GWCQP's next time in Tunisia to be distinguished by the real achievements made in the field of working for Al-Quds and Palestine.
