Palestine is My Compass Campaign

 

Palestine is My Compass is a global campaign meant to mobilize support for the Palestinian cause. It is a global awareness and field media campaign for the men, women and the youth of the Ummah with the aim of reviving their interest in the compass of Palestine, the everlasting nation, and all its components: Al-Quds, the Gaza Strip, its refugees and prisoners.

Campaign Preparation and Planning:

 

  • Preparation and planning for the global campaign, Palestine is My Compass, began at the start of June and ended in September 2020. Tens of meetings between the organizing bodies took place, in which work was divided between the following teams: media team, knowledge production team, translation team, communications team, relations team, and technical team.

 

  • 25 volunteers joined the knowledge production team during the Palestine is My Compass campaign. They collected files on the campaign’s content and on the following four topics: Al-Quds, Prisoners, Refugees, and Gaza Strip.

 

  • The translation team translated the files in five languages: Arabic, English, French, Spanish, and Germen.

 

  • Preparation and planning for the global four-week campaign, Palestine is My Compass, went underway.

 

  • We communicated with many influential pro-Palestinian personalities and institutions to establish partnerships. 100 institutions and 46 influential figures from different countries in the world participated in the campaign.

 

The campaign’s preparation stage resulted in hundreds of Palestine-related contents, promotional materials for the campaign, promos, and infographic videos. They were filled with enough content and information to nourish the Palestinian cause for the four weeks that were devoted to awareness and education about Al-Quds, refugees, prisoners, and the Gaza Strip.

 

All campaign materials were produced in five main languages: Arabic, English, French, German and Spanish, which resulted in producing more than 600 media contents in the five languages.

 

The Palestine is My Compass campaign was launched through an international press conference on August 15, 2020. Many prominent figures participated: Dr. Ikrima Sabri, Sheikh and Preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and Dr. Moncef Marzouki, former President of Tunisia.

 

In Africa, the Palestine is My Compass campaign was launched through a women’s conference for African symbols on August 16, 2020. The participants included a group of African women figures from several countries such as Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Chad, Uganda, Djibouti, and Kenya.

 

As for the campaign’s Latin American conference, which was held on August 23, 2020, it included Luis Alejandro, Director of Middle East Affairs for the ruling party in Venezuela.

 

Each of the four weeks was concluded with a conference on to the week’s topic, where a group of experts discussed said topic:

 

  • Al-Quds Week – A conference titled “Al-Quds is the Compass of the Ummah” was held on August 22, 2020. A group of scholars and figures who are active in working for Palestine, including His Eminence Sheikh Ali Al-Qaradaghi, participated.

 

  • Refugee Week – A forum titled “Returning is My Right and My Decision” was held on August 27, 2020. An elite group of prominent Palestinian and Arab figures participated.

 

  • Prisoners' Week – A conference titled “The Pain of Suffering... and the Hope of Freedom” was held on September 2, 2020, in partnership with the Palestine Center for Prisoner Studies. A group of influential figures participated.

 

  • Gaza Strip Week – A conference titled “Fourteen Years...in the Cell” was held on September 9, 2020 in partnership with The Al-Quds Circle, with the participation of a group of influential figures.

 

The Palestine is My Compass campaign concluded by organizing a tweeting meet-up for the youth with a group of influencers on social media, holding a tweeting event at the end of the campaign, and communicating with all partner institutions to interact with the hashtag of the tweets. Influencers and young people interacted with the it greatly.

Having the institution of the General Assembly of the GWCQP hold a number of events related to the Palestine is My Compass campaign in various countries, including Lebanon, Algeria, Tunisia, Indonesia, and Mauritania…

 

  • The most important charitable projects and programs that emerged from the campaign:

 

Gaza Strip Conference:

 

Launching several medical projects to serve the people of the Gaza Strip. They will be implemented through the Al-Baraka Association in the Gaza Strip:

 

  1. A project to develop the endoscopy unit in Nasser Medical Hospital according to the needs of the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip. The project will be implemented soon and will benefit 800,000 citizens in the Khan Yunis and Rafah governorates.

 

  1. A Project to provide medicines to cancer patients in hospitals of the Ministry of Health as well as supplies for open heart surgery.

 

  1. The total cost of the projects is 599,976 USD.

 

Prisoners' Conference

 

The first project is The Prisoners’ Book Project: Mr. Wael Barhayel, the head of the municipal office for the Israa Association for Culture and Science, said that this project is umbrella for the youth, specialized professors and prominent figures. It is also a project with a mix of Algerian, Tunisian and Palestinian authors. Mr. Wael Barhayel pointed out that what distinguishes this project most is the participation of prisoners from inside the prison there.

 

The second project is the Al-Wafaa Project to Support the Families of Prisoners and Martyrs: It is organized by an Al Baraka association for Charitable and Humanitarian Work. Mr. Muhammad Islam, member of the National Executive Office of the Al Baraka Association, emphasized that in when someone becomes a prisoner, his family is unable bear the consequences of the social and economic conditions, as well as the child rearing and various expenses. Thus, the project was born; it aims to provide 400 sponsorships for the families of prisoners that is worth $2,500 and is annually distributed in three parts.
